Install Picasa 3.5 in Ubuntu
Yesterday Google released Picasa 3.5. This new version have some cool features, as face recognition and geotag.
Is a pitty that google doesn’t take that serious Linux users and didn’t release the 3.5 for Linux.
Trying to figure out a way of making it work, the only way I found is using Wine (yes the windows emulator). I know is not the best way but at least we can try the software and I should say works perfect in Wine (is not confirmed but I read in many places that the Linux version of Picasa is also using an emulator).
How to install it, is really easy.
First we need Wine.
sudo apt-get install wine
After Wine is installed, we need to download the Windows version of Picasa here: http://neo22s.com/wp-content/uploads/2009/09/picasa35-setup.exe.
Once is download simply double click the downloaded file, It should open an installation and follow the steps.
As I said before works good, found my face in my scanned ID.

Hi, Onload of page my antivirus put alert, check pls.
Jinny
I do not understand what you mean :S
Whether I double-click the executable or right-click and open with Wine Windows Program Loader, the executable will not execute. The cursor changes shape for a couple of seconds, and then goes back to normal. I can also try to install it from inside wine, but the executable still does not start.
I am using Fedora 11, and have wine installed. Any ideas what might be wrong?
I’m really sorry but with fedora I can’t help you :(
